The arch of Porta Garibaldi, familiarly known as "Potta furtinu U" (The Fort) was built in 1768, designed by architects Battle and Ittar to celebrate the marriage of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon with Carolina of Austria. The Gateway presents itself to our eyes with interesting play of colors created by the alternation of white stone Syracuse and black lava stone.
